Where will you be at 9:01pm PDT? At 12:01am EDT June 13th, Facebook begins giving out user names and you’ll want to act fast if you want a popular one or just one that’s related to your name. With 200 million members across the globe, it’s likely you might have a Facebook doppelganger. Do a quick search to see if there are others out there with your name. Facebook did make provisions for those who might have trademarked or copywrited names, see here: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=username_rights
Starting at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13, you’ll be able to choose a username on a first-come, first-serve basis for your profile and the Facebook Pages that you administer by visiting www.facebook.com/username/. You’ll also see a notice on your home page with instructions for obtaining your username at that time.
However, If you’re brand new to Facebook, meaning you’ve signed up since May 31, you might be out of luck. Those members are being restricted due to Facebook’s wish to put the kybosh on cybernamesquatting.
And a side note, you better really like/love the name that you’ve picked. Once you’ve selected it, you can’t change or transfer it.
